Celebrities use online dating sites. They use them to be “normal” and to meet normal people. Whereas, most people use them to celebritize themselves and build themselves up. “Celebrity Z” has publicly admitted that she dabbles in chat rooms and on online dating sites. In fact, “Celebrity Z” stated that she spends lots of time having fun and chatting in chat rooms. It started out with being curious about what this Internet dating buzz is all about but then she enjoys just having fun talking to people.
“Celebrity X” is registered with match.com and on her profile, she posts that her career is working as a comedian and that she is interested in coffee and conversation. She also posts at her profile that she likes “smart men, funny men, elegant men”. “Celebrity Y” revealed that he has registered and signed up at an online dating site. He reported this to Rolling Stone Magazine. Some celebrities post “dating” as one of the reasons they are on social networking websites such as MySpace and Facebook.
Why on earth would the rich and famous go online to find dates? We think it’s for the opposite reason that “normal”, not-famous people join a dating website. We register with an online dating service to maximize our presence, build up our profile and status, add more connections, and to become more popular. Celebrities use online dating sites so that they can have the opposite effect, be more normal, be more low key, and find normal (average) people. They want to find people who like them for who they truly are inside (their character) and not because they are famous. They want to take time out and just be normal, feel relaxed, and connect with people without all the strings attached with stardom.
